Bearings are used for reducing friction between two surfaces.“ Lower the friction lesser is the effort ” The above aspect was understood by our ancestors long long ago.
This concept led to the idea of wheel. Later on this was modified by introducing rolling elements between wheel and the shaft.
This gradually led man to invent bearings. Today, there are bearings available for applications like cryogenic engines, acidic environment, high temperatures and high speeds.
